The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio: How My Mother Raised 10 Kids on 25 Words or Less
by Terry Ryan
The movie is pretty awesome too. I showed it to my kids (the ones I work with who have emotional issues) and we talked about having apostivie attitude despite crap. In some ways she was in major denial of her problems, but in a lot of ways that defense mechanism really helped out.

This book was really great. One of those books about a person who is so amazing, if you wrote a novel about her, people would complain that it wasn't believable. This woman basically supported her family with the money and prizes from contests she entered. There were two times where a large cash prize came just in time to keep this family from losing their home. Amazing.
The book also made me remember all the good things about coming from a large family and made me think for the first time in my life, "Hmmm, maybe I *would* like to have as many children as possible."
