it was amazing

I really enjoyed this book. The story was far from predictable and the characters complex and interesting. Events are well described and emotions real. It was at times very moving. It was almost unbearable reading how the main character is forced into prostitution at 11 when her "stepfather" brings home a man to whom he has sold her virginity. This probably sounds like the book would have explicit sex scenes, but it doesn't. The author handles the at times sordid subject matter with taste. It does get a little soap operatic near the end, but not enough so to ruin the story.
