Read in July, 2010

I decided to try reading more non-fiction in 2010 and somehow ended up with two books about the Amazon, The Lost City of Z and this one. Maybe Amazon.com's recommendation algorithm includes something like "You love to spend a shitload of money on Amazon, maybe you'll like reading about the Amazon." Anyways, Fordlandia examines Henry Ford's attempts to build a factory city in the jungles of Brazil. There are some interesting segments, and mostly it's just kind of interesting seeing how Ford, who has had a huge impact on the industry and, hence, politics and culture of this country, was a complete weirdo kook. Anyways, if that subject sounds interesting to you, this is a good book. If that subject sounds like something you couldn't care less about, obviously don't pick this up.
