bookshelves: audiobook, abandoned, non-fiction, come-back-to-it-later, to-read

Got through CD 15 and about halfway through CD 16 by checking this out from the library 3 times. Had to take it back and couldn't renew again. I think I give up. I don't want to say I've read this, because I didn't finish. But I read more of it than there is left. I'll update this review if I finish it.

I would almost say the comparison between different societies and why they fell is secondary to my interest in the brief histories of these groups of people, most of which I knew next to nothing about. In hindsight, of course, the things that led to the decline seem obvious, but the fact that these groups of people, in some cases large, complex societies that lived in these places for hundreds of years before they collapsed, makes me wonder what factors of our our demise we don't currently see.
