Faithful: Two Diehard Boston Red Sox Fans Chronicle the Historic 2004 Season by Stewart O'Nan
To be fair, I read this book more for "research" than enjoyment, as I'd love to do a similar project. Anyone picking this up for the writing of O'Nan or King might be disappointed, as little of the style that makes those two such great novelists makes it into these diary entries. (King, especially, deserves his second billing, as he's just not in the book that much.) But it does capture the baseball fan experience, living and dying with a team's fortunes, and the delight that comes with seeing your team achieve more than you expected or hoped.
