Steinberg's writing really held my interest, exploring his time as a prison librarian right here in MA. Of course, I'm professionally aghast that they hired him with no library training. (Sheesh!) But his growing compassion for the inmates he gets to know fighting with the facts of who they are and what they've done to land in prison, is fascinating. It would have gotten 4.5 or 5 stars, but the end was limp. No conclusion, not even an indication of where he went next in his own life. It just went phlpffft.

I would like to see a book compilation of the "kites."
