What an interesting book. Costain describes the cruelty of William I and the havoc the Normans visited upon the Saxons in convincing fashion. He takes us through the trevails of the great King Henry II and brings up the apt comparison of David and Absalom. It is impossible that Costain could know the inner thoughts and the other details that he describes here. But it sure make for a great read. I am giving this my own personal rating of 8.
