What a wonderful book on the impact writing can have in a life. Every 4th grade child should have a teacher like Ms. Mirabel!

Many commentors have remarked that the voices of the children aren't true to the typical 4th grader, and I would agree with that. Sixth grade would have been more true to the voices. Another thought I kept having throughout was, no way would Henry be friends with a bunch of girls and vice versa. But if you can read around this little detail the insight contained in this little book is priceless.

Both my kids (3rd and 5th grade) begged me to finish it the first night. They loved the story, and I think on some level loved the idea that they could be Henry or Evie or May or Russell...so perhaps MacLachlan is on to something having these children think so philosophically.
