really liked it

It is great news that a book like this can thrive in the contemporary novel environment: a story that builds momentum gracefully but with increasing power like a trickle of water to a rushing stream. The story of Donald and his family is about life, facing death, and the new life that springs from the passing of a great spirit like this book's central figure. Harrison's language and wisdom are riveting. The last paragraph is the most chilling end of a novel in years, so much restraint required for so perfect a close.
