Read from January 24 to 25, 2011

I have no complaints about this book. I loved everything about it, from frontispiece to endpapers, from the surprise ribbon bookmark to the charming and deft illustrations. When I discussed it with Pat at the story, he asked if it reminded me of Fables and I said no. The only similarity is that they both are rooted in the fairytale culture set out by Hans Christian Anderson and Brothers Grimm. Castle Waiting is like being in the real world of the fairytale. It never feels forced or high-handed with its references. Even if you didn't know one single nursery story, you'd be completely enthralled with this tale. I immediately purchased Vol. 2 and read it in a day.
