Meredith's review of Middlesex
Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides
I had wanted to read Middlesex for a long time and I finally requested it from PaperbackSwap. I read about half of it and then took a long break - the beginning was full of other cultures and scandalous incest, but the middle sort of slowed down and was less interesting. I just picked it up again while on vacation, and I powered through the second half - once the narrator was born, it got very interesting again, primarily because of his gender dysphoria as a child. Jeffrey Eugenides must have done outstanding research on intersexuality to write this book - I'm really glad I finished the book. I left it at a Starbucks in Seattle with a BookCrossing ID written inside.
