The character Mannie in this novel is a young boy who has many problems. Not only does he fight/struggle with himself but he struggles with his family as well. His mother was pregant from a young age which leads her to clean constantly to relieve stress, his father is an alcholic, and his brother is not responsible. But through out this book, Mannie later overcomes obstacles and learns how having an education is important.

What I liked about this book was the way style and the tone was written because it sounded as if a heavy accented latino ( the character himself) was speaking. This book also taught me lot about morals, for one example in one scene it showed that no matter situtation your in, your family is always gonne be by your side. I would give this book four stars because of loss of interest time to time.
