3.5 stars. Like other Higgins books, this one is at the very chicklitish arm of the romance genre... or perhaps the romantic arm of the chicklit genre would be even more apt. It bothered me some at first, since in the grand tradition of chicklit, the first-person narrator of this book is quite a doof. Millie has been hopelessly in love with/stalking a guy she barely knows for most of her life and her grand purpose in life is to do anything she needs to do to get him. It’s the modern equivalent of a fairy tale, with the expected modern ending -- the prince turns out to be a frog.
Luckily there’s some personal growth for Millie and some chances for her to shine as a character that kept me interested. The second half of the book is far better than the first and the ending is very satisfying.
There’s a definite ick factor in this story, which the book blurb seriously downplays: (view spoiler). Higgins handles the issue pretty well, by honestly acknowledging how difficult it is for everyone involved, though I suspect in real life there would be more and stronger undercurrents of feeling for Millie and her love. But it's an enjoyable story and so it worked for me.

I burned out on these chicklit/romance hybrids a few years ago and went ahead and read the spoiler, thanks for that. This one is so not for me. I wouldn't be able to get past the doofy heroine + the ick.

Higgins had a very similar icky situation in 'Too Good To Be True' and it grossed me out. Why does she have to do that? Aren't there other guys in the world?Definitely not reading this one (thanks for the spoiler!)
