The thing I liked about the first Alpha & Omega novel is that it doesn't start with love at first sight, or even building up to that moment. It begins at the "happily ever after" point when the prince sweeps Cinderella back home to his palace, and they have to face the fact that while they might be soul mates, they don't know anything about each other. And the prince has a kingdom to run and Cinderella has to get over her traumatic past of abuse at the hands of her evil step-family.

I enjoyed that first book, but not enough to make me seek out the second one right away. I finally got around to it, though, and it is certainly an improvement to the awkward plotting in book one, where the two main characters were not as pro-active as they could have been.

In book two, it's been a month, and the two main characters have both gotten over the initial shock of finding themselves madly in love (which is all explained by some kind of werewolf mechanics, but it doesn't matter). Their growing stability is tested when they become involved in an evil plot that must be thwarted (of course).

The plot is leaner and smoother than the previous novel, and it's nice to read a romance about how to keep a relationship going, as opposed to the hero and heroine having to constantly deny attraction in order to keep the tension going.

I also like that the heroine is not a super-warrior, or a "man with breasts." Not that she doesn't face some typical werewolf/action heroine situations, but her power doesn't come from violence (typical of masculinity) but compassion (typical of femininity).

This one left me hoping that the series will be continued.
