What I love about this series is how the modern and classic writing style are woven perfectly together. Their is just enough of that dated and beautiful writing, (that sadly is not typically present in more recent children's books), without overwhelming young readers or requiring them to have a dictionary within reach the entire time. Stories like these are critical for grade school aged students to build that foundation of classic reading comprehension. Readying them for those more challenging high school required reading lists.
