Ugh. Hastings always drives me nuts. And Poirot is not quite at his best in this story—the final clue he stumbles on (the one that allows him to finally prove whodunit) is one he really should have noticed in the first chapter after the murder. Strange that he'd immediately draw all the correct conclusions from the rest of the bizarre and conflicting evidence in the case and miss that one. Ah, well. He gets better, even if that blunderer Hastings does not.
