The crime? two nuns - one young, one old... both beaten, the young one to death, the old one to coma... why? The focus is on the young one, who had given birth (unknowingly to the other sisters) to an encephilitis baby - and she buried her in the pond... but the real reason for their deaths? the older nun had spent some time in a leper villiage in India... the India was wiped out by a US chemical company nearby, and to cover it up, someone went to the village to burn the evidence - killing a few people who had not died... and the nun hadn't been there that day, but still knew too much - and the young nun followed the older nun to the chapel to offer assistance, but came in on a man beating her and so was killed also...Other clues include a leper escapee from the village who was also killed nearby, and the death of a few mafia type men...

The story unfolds well... shifting the focus, clues that tell us they need to dig deeper...Dean & Victor's input...

Maura's exhusband, Victor, is key to solving this... he is a crusader who helps find funding for causes around the world... he has knowledge of the chemical company and the deaths they caused and covered up (as some of his company's people were there) and that his company took a great deal of money from the chemical people to not report what they saw.. So Victor shows up back in Maura's life, so that he can monitor if there is any threat to his company's good name... and Maura & Victor hash out some of their old relationship, and Maura realizes her lonliness, and they have a few days of bliss - until Dean shows her photos of the leper village, and Maura realizes why Victor showed up in the first place....

Victor gives them the context and understanding - but he did not know the company was continuing the coverup by killing the nun and the leper... but gives them the ammunition they need.

Rizzoli has her own internal conflicts... she is pregnant, and she hasn't heard from Dean in a month... she struggles with it... but after Christmas eve with the family, she knows she can love the baby and that it is right that Dean know... and Dean shows up, and they talk, and the story ends 4 months later with their marriage.
