John L's review of American Creation: Triumphs and Tragedies in the Founding of the Republic
American Creation: Triumphs and Tragedies in the Founding of the Republic by Joseph J. Ellis
I never knew that John Adams was the real radical of his group. Always thought of him as an old old man. But after reading this book, became much more aware that he was intrumental in the creation of this new form of government. Also realizing that the slavery issue and the fate of Native Americans were known to be the opposite of what we idealized in our Declaration and Constitution. Not withstanding those two major errors, we certainly are lucky to be a product of those enlightened thinkers of the 18th century.
