At a medical conference in Wyoming, Maura Isles meets up with a classmate from college. He is at the conference with his daughter, and another couple, who are friend's of his. He introduces Maura to them and convinces her to go on a skiing trip with them. On the way to the ski lodge, the snow gets worse and their SUV goes off the road. They are miles from nowhere. They start to work and seek refuge in the village of Kingdom Come where the people have just vanished leaving animals outside to freeze and dinner sitting on the table. Although no one is around Maura has seen footsteps in the fresh snow and she feels as though they are being watched. They have no cell phone reception in Kingdom Come and few days later, her friend Jane Rizzoli receives word that the charred remains of Maura have been found. Jane, with the help of her husband Dean, an FBI agent travel to Wyoming because Jane is determined to find out what happened to her best friend. The story is a thriller and well worth reading.

Anita Johnson I don't read too many mysteries but you make this sound so good that I'm going to get this from the library. Thanks for the recommendation.

Ruth Start with The Surgeon by her. The Apprentice is the follow-up, I believe but check the copyright to make sure. Those were fantastic. Ice Cold is her newest one.

Ruth One of my favorite mysteries is Chill Factor by Sandra Brown. Do try that one!
