I can honestly say I have never read anything like Ship Breaker. Paolo Bacigalupi takes you on a unique adventure through a world were Nailer, a teenage boy who doesn't know his own age and has no family besides his abusive drunk father, is forced to rummage through old wrecked ships to find copper he can sell to survive. The characters were very interesting and his imagery pulled you into the world he imagined. I think the unique plot line was the most enticing, and it is definitely a world with a lot of mysteries that are still to be revealed in the rest of the series.
