did not like it

Welp, I'm sure we're none surprised that this book fell flat for me. While much I will shoulder as simply an issue of genre and preference, I can't, however, take all the blame. Many of the characters (including our eponymous hero) fall flat. Veeeery very flat. As in flat v. round characters. I'd go into more detail about how/why, but honestly, I can't be bothered. Also, I did *not* learn anything in the books about the Napoleonic wars... well, I take that back, I did learn a few racial slurs.

[Heaven help me: I'm moving into historical fiction. A gift from a new friend. I gave him Wharton's _The Age of Innocence_... we'll see if this was a fair trade. But the cover is exciting, so that's promising. First thing's first: I need to read the Wikipedia entry on the Napoleonic Wars.]
