People with time on their hands
I have been 'currently reading' this book since 1996. I started over recently and things are making a lot more sense. People say this book changed their lives, if I could make it past page 165 or so, I might agree.
A girl I dated in college said it was her favorite book. I asked her "you finished it?"
"Yeah."
"You could follow it?" I asked.
"Mmm-hmm," she replied.
Then I asked sarcastically, "did it take you like six months?"
"No," she said, "about 3 days.
At this point I realized that this girl was probably way out of my league.
----- Reader's note.
Fuck this book. What is it with Pynchon that as I age I have far less patience for him nor I have a desire to read books that feel more like abuse than enjoyment.
