The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
by F. Scott Fitzgerald
by F. Scott Fitzgerald
I was interested in this first when the movie came out last two Decembers due to unique trailer. It was intriguing that the trailer didn't reveal a direct problem, as many other trailers have shown. After watching the three hour movie, I loved how detailed each scene was, and how the director chose scenes that showed how the character changed through each event.
Couple months ago, I thought it would have been interesting to read this short selection. However, after I finished, it disappointed me very much. The book lacked detail that show how each stage of his life changed. I think the character was very narrow-minded compared to the one in the movie.
Don't get me wrong, but I believe Brad Pitt did a pretty good job portraying a better character than the short selection did. I think what Scott Fitzgerald should of done, like many others would agree, is to expand this short story into a novel.
Although I preferred the movie much more than short story itself, I would praise Scott for this idea. From my understanding, I'm assured that the Roaring Twenties of US must have strongly influenced him to throw out this small idea out in a short selection. I think this novel and movie really helps the older people reminisce how they were when they were younger. And surely enough, when I get older, I would like to remember how different I was, in terms of maturity and growth.
