Carl This was the only MacDonald I read all the way through. Enjoyed it, though it was a bit trippy (or was that just because I read it while traveling around Sweden?) Later I ended up reading Dunsany and Lovecraft, both of whom had a similar feel in their more fantasy oriented work. I guess that's just what fantasy was that early, until it was transformed by Howard, Borroughs, and later Tolkien (there were some other authors in their too, but I can't remember their names). I know Dunsany influenced Lovecraft alot, but there may have been a lot of influence on both from MacDonald.
