A Caribbean Mystery (Miss Marple, #10)
by Agatha Christie
by Agatha Christie
Anybody reading this review should know I absolutely love Agatha Christie, therefore my opinion of the book might be slightly in her favour.
The story takes place on a Caribbean island where Miss Marple spends some time to improve her health. In the hotel she stays there are several other interessting characters including Major Palgrave. In Miss Marple he found a patient listener to his various stories telling of hunting tigers, time in India and so on. During one of those one sided conversations he begins the story of a murder but gets quite distracted before he's able to finish it. The next day he's dead.
This is how the book starts. The setting of the book was really lovely described ... I could imagine myself spending some time on St. Honore, even feeling the warm sun on my skin. Of course the pace of the story is quite gentle but really fitting the time aera and of course an elderly lady like Miss Marple. I loved the bits and peaces that come together as the story evolves.
The language is fairly simple, her style straight forward without any twirls ... which I really like.
And as always with Agatha Christie I didn't discover the murderer until the very last few pages. Love it!
