More of a 2.5, I think. Regardless, teenager ends up in the middle of this massive corporate conspiracy where people are being bred to act more like plants and not need to eat or drink. Teenager works to blow the whole thing open, learns terrible things about humanity in the process.

This was extremely paint-by-numbers conspiracy stuff, with some fairly extreme ideological elements to boot. The book succeeds in being a pretty decent page-turner, but fails in a lot of other (perhaps more important) aspects. The story's motives in particular are rather out there and the reader who picks this up would be unlikely to figure that out - I don't want to give away the plot too much, but it becomes very obvious very quickly.

I'm sure there's a way to pull this type of story together. At this point, I'm not sure I've read one that has shown how yet, though.
