This is a City Watch book. A group of fundamentalist "Deep" dwarf leaders have come to Ankh-Morpork before the anniversary of the Koom Valley war, which started the endless enmity between dwarves and trolls. Preaching intolerance, they raise tensions in the city, until one of them is murdered - seemingly by a troll. Vimes then has to work out what actually happened and attempt to not only prevent a new war from breaking out, but possibly even end the age-old conflict for good.

As with most of the City Watch books, this is a good page-turning whodunnit, but it is also an excellent satire on racial and religious intolerance, and the people who actively incite it.
