A Discworld novel featuring the City Watch - in particular, Sam Vimes, who is sent back in time by 30 years along with a dangerous psychopath to pre-revolutionary Ankh-Morpork. He is then faced with trying to catch his criminal, while simultaneously mentoring his younger self and the rest of the undisciplined Night Watch. Interesting and fun, and the antagonist Carcer is one of Pratchett's most disturbing and convincing villains.
