This is almost a stand-alone Discworld novel, although the City Watch, Gaspode and the Patrician all feature fairly heavily. It is about an idealistic young aristocrat, William de Worde, who is estranged from his family due to his liberal and modern views. He sets up Ankh-Morpork's first newspaper, and quickly finds himself trying to unravel a plot to frame the Patrician and replace him with a pliable puppet-ruler.

This is a very funny thriller, with some excellent swipes at the world of newspapers - I thought this would have been the first of many books about the AM Times, but that has sadly not turned out to be the case.
