Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning

Last night, for the first time in years, I wished I had a big strong man around so he could take a flashlight and peek under my bed. I guess fear can do that to a girl.

You can laugh all you want, but fae scare me to death. You always know what the dangers are with vampires and shifters, but with the fae you don’t even see the danger coming. They can hide, but you can’t. Plus, when they show their true face, they are ugly as hell. I don’t like ugly, I like beautiful deadly creatures. But that’s just me.

So to give credit where credit is due, Karen Marie Moning’s writing is so good that I was afraid to fall asleep. But that’s where the good things end.

Fortunately, I have great faith in my GR friends, so I will keep reading the series. Otherwise I’m not sure I would. But, as I so often declare, I’m an eternal optimist. I haven’t given up on the Shifters series, and I won’t give up on Fever. I just hope Mac will change, and soon, because right now I just want to smack her in the head. Barrons tells her not to speak, and she keeps her mouth shut?! He tells her to stay in her room and she obeys?! He doesn’t do much else but order her around and she just takes it?! Well, I know it’s safer that way, but she could at least argue more often!

And Barrons… don’t even get me started! I know addressing people by name in every other sentence is supposed to show respect and whatnot, but he was not showing her respect, that much was clear. He was just being a jerk. At one point I wanted to throw the book across the room and into the opposite wall (except it wasn’t a book, it was my iPhone, so I really couldn’t). That’s how much he annoyed me with the ‘Ms. Lane’ thing.

I’m starting Bloodfever right now, and I hope things will get better. Honestly, I do. Otherwise I’m in deep… trouble!

Vinaya oooh, really? About time! :P

Maja The pressure was too great! ;)

Vinaya Lol, it does get better. Everybody who reads the first book has the exact same complaints (well, not the Fae-fear, but the rest of it!), but the series (and Barrons!) get exponentially better with each book! Yay! I'm so glad you finally got started on this series! :)

I want to laugh so hard at the 'Ms. Lane' thing. lol

It is so hideously frustrating isn't it!

Just keep one thing in mind with Barrons. Don't try to LABEL him.

That's my *spoiler* I just couldn't resist. =)

Maja I'm in the mood for spoilers, anyway. I just can't turn the pages fast enough!

It's not much of a spoiler, though, if I don't understand it. :)
I guess I just have to keep reading. No sleep for me tonight.

Well, you can go super spoiler crazy and read the KMM chat and the thread on her message board on her site where her notes on the series are posted. hehe

See, most people label Barrons, generally they try to sort out WHAT he is really. Frankly, I didn't care, his harshness ended up making Mac stronger. In the situation she is in you need that, its like being a Navy Seal only its with a growly unnatural man running your training, that's the way I saw it. He is trying to keep her alive, and make it so she can keep herself alive on her own. Is he a pain in the arse? God, yes. But does he save her life? Indeed.

It might be this series isn't for you. That's happened to me before. All my reading buddies love a book, but I can't get into it. If that happens to you, don't worry. There's plenty more out there. :)

Maja Oh, no, God, I'm so into it now. I didn't even sleep last night, I just had to finish Faefever. And what an ending it was!

Lindsey, I WAS always wondering what he is, but I guess I see your point - it really makes no difference. I'm always kidding about spoilers - I did that once, read something on Wiki and ruined the next six books waiting for the thing I read about to happen. Never again. :)

When you get to shadowfever you will SOOOOOO be tempted to cheat.

I had to have my husband watch me like a hawk. I said "If you see me skip to the back, smack me or take the book away!"

It was like torture, totally and completely TORTURE!!!!!!!! But it was worth waiting for though I have to admit lol

Maja I hope I have that much self control. I'm just starting Dreamfever and should be done by tonight. So tomorow I have to find someone to keep an eye on me. :)

Barrons is great now. He was all work, no play before. He still is, of course, but he is at least funny once in a while. When Mac invented MacHalo and did her little dance, I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe.

HAHAHAHA!

I know!!!!

Yes, everyone likes Barrons Dreamfever the best. I like all of Barrons, there was always a method to the madness I knew that. God, you are going to scream at the end of Dreamfever HA!

Maja I finished Dreamfever already. I cried like a baby. It was embarassing. A grown woman crying over a character she KNOWS is not dead. :)))

Good thing it was 3 AM so nobody saw me.
