Autobiography of Douglass. Fascinating and horrifying that this ever took place, often robed in Christianity. One amazing thing he says is that he hates slavery for what it does to the slaves and what it does to the slave owners. He describes a sweet kindly woman who was his mater's wife who, over time, changed from one who tried to help Douglass read to a woman who could whip him until he bled. Chilling.
