This was a pleasure to read, from start to finish. I especially loved the ending.

Robyn Smith I read this in an American Lit course in the 80s. She's a great writer, on a par with Henry James, if not better. She casts a very shrewd eye on the social mores of upper class Americans in the late nineteenth century, especially women.
