Starts strong. My initial expectations were met with immediate grit and the sort of gutter-truth this kind of literature can dole out. However, as I approached the end of the first section, truth began to cease and, toilet-ish, the stories spiral into themselves and disappear. I skimmed and read chunks of the rest of the book.

All comparisons to Bukowski are unfortunate: Bukowski is quite consistent with his mercurial stories and universally applicable truths. Perhaps that's due to the curation of his works in certain volumes, but I don't often find myself bored when reading Bukowski. Gutiérrez on the other hand, I simply could not finish.

Worth it for the first section, I'd say.
