I'm a little bit blown away by this book. I'm amazed I didn't read it as a kid, that it's a first novel and written by the same women who wrote 101 Dalmatians. It's kind of incredible that it was written in 1948 and the character is a young girl with a crazy father in dire straights, she questions God, falls in love with her (soon to be) brother-in-law and rolls around in the forest with another paramour. It's just wonderful and makes lots of important statements about life and art and family.
