This was a fairly intense, and eye opening read. Though some of the figures are slightly outdated (the book was written in the early 90s and most figures are from the late 80s - 1991), I don't imagine the problems have changed much in the last 15 or so years. If anything, I would speculate they've gotten worse.
This book is sometimes heartbreaking and always smart. It really makes a person wonder why there is still so much segregation in our public education sysyem (how many years since Brown vs. Board of Education?!) and, more importantly, how we can change this.
I really wanted to give 4.5 stars, but decided to give the 5 over 4. A very, very good book.
