The Subtle Knife (His Dark Materials, Book 2) by Philip Pullman
i liked it a lot more this time around than the first time i read it. things come together that you wouldn't have suspected, and the author often describes the characters' feelings in a way you wouldn't normally imagine but are remarkably accurate.
