A very quick read, this was an enjoyable story of how The Replacemnts' defining record effected the life of Colin Meloy, singer of The Decembrists. The 33 1/3 series published by Continuum is a seried of books that each chronicles an influential album in the history of rock and roll. Each one is written by a different author and takes a very different perspective as to how the record was influential. While some are very technical, breaking down the number of beats per minute and the keys the songs are in, Meloy chooses instead to talk about his teenage years listening to the album. In fact, the large part of the book is spent telling stories that have absolutely nothing to do with the Replacements. In some ways this is disappointing because I learned almost nothing about the band or the album that I didn't already know. On the other hand, Meloy's story relates exactly why we listen to music.
