Based on the revolutionary poet, Pablo Neruda's childhood, this book is indicative of his struggle to be himself, someone who sees the beauty and fascination in all living things, with an autocratic and abusive father. Neruda's poetry is placed between beautifully written chapters that are full of imagery and emotions full of bravery for a young tenatious boy. This book could be one of the best to introduce prose to older children and young adults.
