This novel is told in short staccato bursts, clearly aimed at the 20-30 something urban reader. Emily is the child of divorce, thrown into panic by her mother's breast cancer diagnosis. Her long-missing father appears and hires her (a lawyer) as a receptionist for his law firm. There are a few amusing observations about life in the NYC office setting. What worries me about this sort of book is that the author does not expect any sort of attention span from her readers. Bodes ill for the future of popular literature that this was a best seller.
