This is a Witches Discworld book - King Verence of Lancre invites vampires from Uberwald to Lancre for the christening party for his first child. This gives the self-styled modern "vampyres" power over Verence and all of his subjects. Such is the power that even Granny Weatherax is unsure how or if she can fight them, and ends up relying on a young Omnian priest who is assailed by self-doubt. One of the better Witches book, but it does seem to somewhat lose its way towards the end.
