If you look back on your high school and college years, fondly remembering detailed explorations of The Periodic Table of the Elements, I think it's safe to say that you're a true nerd. It may actually qualify as the most accurate indicator of authentic nerd status. It will come as no surprise to those who know me best, or who have read many of my reviews, that I am one of those nerds. Sam Kean firmly establishes his nerd authenticity in The Disappearing Spoon and, speaking for the worldwide brother and sisterhood, we're glad to have him.
