really liked it
bookshelves: regency, trashy-romance
Read in May, 2007

These Old Shades is a Regency romance.^^^^Do I hear a gasp of horrified shock!? Ah but 'tis very well written - witty and intriguing. I admit that I'm addicted to trashy romance novels (yes yes, I know - for shame), but trashy romance novel this is not.^^^^I love how she developed the characters and how they're quite individualistic... though much is to be desired of the Heyer's women characters - so flighty and the whole \oooh! I think I should faint!\" does tend to get a bit trying sometimes, though her heroine of this book, Leonie, is charming and mischievous.^^^^Minh, who recommended and lent me the book, thought Justin Alistair, Duke of Avon, the male protagonist, was a bastard. I could see why, but he was pretty funny in a sardonic way.^^^^Plot-wise, it was actually well developed. I enjoyed the twists, even though they were a tad predictable."
