When their parents take a long cruise vacation, Kendra and Seth think they’re in for a seriously boring summer with their grandparents. Little do they know that their Grandfather’s large wooded property is the home to thousands of magical creatures! Fairies, centaurs, imps, and naiads call Fablehaven home – or at least, a preserve where they can live without much human interaction. Mysteries still abound for the two kids: where is their grandmother? What secrets does the attic hold? And what will happen to the kids on Midsummer Eve, the night that magical beings riot and revel and seek to work mischief on humans? Seth, ever curious, manages to anger the fairies and annoy an imprisoned witch; surely he won’t be able to resist breaking Grandpa’s rule not to look out the window on Midsummer Eve. Despite Kendra’s protest, Seth unintentionally opens the door to raging beasts, unleashing an ancient war between magical creatures and putting them all in danger. Kendra must summon her courage and take a huge risk if any of them have any hope of survival.

Wow, this book was a surprise for me! The story started pretty slow for me, but it really picked up in the Midsummer Eve chapter. The suspense and mystery kept building and building . . . it really got exciting! Definitely check this book out if you like fantasy or mythical creatures.
