Something from the Nightside (Nightside #1)

by Simon R. Green
I found this book while looking for somthing to keep me entertained untill the next Dresden files book comes out. This is similar and if you enjoy those books you might like this series.
The cons: 1. you will read "in the nightside" after after any sentce, it get reall anoying after a while, like the autor just can give us the bennifit of the doubt that we know where event are taking place. "I scratched my nose, in the night side, du du duuuu", give it a break. also the puns like " my third eye, my private eye" are repeated ad nausium.
2. too short for a book of this type. I know it was the first one in the serise but you could have gone in to more detail on the surroundings and less on tyring to force mood on us, let the reader develop more of a picture of the world without force feeding "scary" onto us, it doesn't work if you force it.
the pros: the story is pretty good and i really like the setting. It is wide open and the mystery of the main charicters back story is open enough to keep readers comming back. I am looking forwad to reading the rest of these.
all in all i enjoyed this first offering even if it did have it's draw backs. the rules of the world were not really well defined wich can be a good thing if handeled well and if not can lead to the infamous Deus ex machina. although in this setting you could quite literaly have a "god in the machine" and it wouldn't be out of place.
