The Mad Ship (Liveship Traders, #2)

2.5 - Lost a half a star because this book is too. freaking. long. 901 pages. Please, can we cut out like 300 pages? Not that it is boring - Hobb is a fantastic writer and the book is really readable and fun. Just long. My second qualm with this book is the lame dialogue. LAME. I remember I had the same issue with the Farseer trilogy. The author sometimes resorts to sappy cheap romance lines that seriously don't fit a burly rugged pirate. Just me.
Notes on the plot: Wintrow was my favorite character in the first book, and I'm glad to see his role take on a bigger part of the plot. The star of this book, for me, was Malta. I loved how Hobbs took Malta - the so spoiled snotty pre-adolescent crazy (that I absolutely wonderfully hated in #1) - and completely - and believably - turned her around.
On to book 3. Finally.

If you don't like the length of a book... DONT PICK IT UP... You cannot say a book is 2.5 stars, instead of more because it's too long... Seriously... So what, would you call Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov shit because its 936 pages?? (one of the best Russian Literary Masterpieces of all time)...

Actually, I'm not afraid of long books - some of my favorites loom at around 1000 pages. I simply thought this book was too long for the content. The plot, to me, didn't seem to warrant all of the words. Thanks for the comment, though. And, yes, I entirely agree that The Brothers Karamazov IS one of the best Russian literary masterpieces of all time. Kudos.
