I stumbled across this ebook by accident and decided to give it a try, it had some decent reviews.

Siblings Xander, David, Toria, and their parents move to a remote, small town for the father's new job. The house they end up moving into turns out not to be haunted, but 'occupied' by something frightening. When they move into the house, Xander learns that his father may have a secret reason for hauling the entire family to this remote area, but he doesn't elaborate. At first, the boys' discoveries about the house seem scary but interesting and exciting. However, they soon find out that there is something more sinister lurking upstairs than what they could have ever imagined.

This book falls within the YA genre and it reads as such for the most part - though there are a few more gruesome fight scenes that seem a bit more geared for an older audience. I enjoyed the book for what it was - sort of a junior Stephen King type novel, a little frightening and intense and fun. The flow of the story moved along quickly, with nice description and detail along the way. The dialogue was also done well. The family seemed to have a nice relationship with each other - very trusting (which is sort of hammered upon, especially when they note that it was odd to have secrets from each other) - so the fact that their mother didn't have a clue as to this HUGE secret the father had about his past did seem a little in-congruent.

I don't usually like cliff hangers so that sort of bugged me about the ending of the book - I would rather there be some type of wrap up in one book while leaving things open enough to move on to a second or third book.

But, with that said, I will probably read the second book in this series and I will definitely read some of Liparulo adult-genre books because I did like his writing style.
