I'm not going to review the whole Belgaraid Series. I just wanted everyone to know how much I loved them. They are witty, filled with social, political and religious criticisms and entertained me as a teenager. Garion is a young orphan boy being raised by his beautiful Aunt Pol on a wealthy farm. They are whisked away on a journey be the comical Mr. Wolf and Garion's life turns upside down. He learns that Aunt Pol and Mr. Wolf are really old sorcerers and that he himself is the Pawn of Prophesy that has to save the world from an evil deity. There are good Gods that help so its not that bad. Torak is more of a Satan character.
All of Eddings' series follow the same pattern. They are just set in different worlds with slightly different magic and the main characters names have been changed to give the illusion of a completely different story. I've read almost all of his books regardless of that. They make me laugh.
Whatever you do, don't read his book The Losers. Enough said.
