Betsy, queen of the dead, is back for book 3 and this time she owns her own nightclub - she inherited it as part of the spoils (killing another vampire) as she did in the last book, Undead and Unemployed, though she is having problems with the staff.

She finds out that she has a half sister in this book and that her sister Laura is the devil’s daughter (The devil being Betsy's step mother under possession). It is written in the book of the dead that her sister is destined to take over the world. On their first meetings though Laura is a really lovely girl and Betsy is even jealous of her for a bit.

You also can't read the book of the dead for very long without going a little crazy and Betsy overdoes it and goes a little crazy, enough to upset everyone she lives with.

This book still has some of the sparkle of the previous two; there is the usual cast of strange characters as well Betsy's rather slow acceptance of her fate and the problems associated with it. I really liked the slow unfolding of more detail of Vampire lore as MaryJanice sees it and way of life as the novel went on.

We get to meet one of the fiends a bit closer too, George, the one that gets away.

I like the way her relationship with Eric Sinclair seems to be getting somewhere, at least she admitted that she loves him.

I look forward to the next book.
