*Only for Patricia Brigg's Alpha and Omega

I had heard such good things about this Patricia Briggs series that I had to give it a try. Although very brief, it is a wonderful story and a great set up to the series.

The thing that makes this, for me, are the unique main characters. Charles is a killer. No hesitation, no apologies, he is his fathers assassin. That said, he is not evil, just very very good at his job. When his latest assignment takes him to Chicago to investigate claims against the Alpha, Charles expects it to be business as usual. What he isn't counting on is his whole life changing in an instant.

Anna has been a werewolf for three years. Three long, brutal, terrifying years. Three years of torture, abuse and hunger while she keeps her head down and just tries to survive. But Anna is not the pitiful, worthless creature her new "family" has made her believe...she is an Omega. Rare, gifted, and revered, or at least that is how things should have been. Barely existing day to day, she never expected her salvation to come in the form of the most frightening man she ever met.

Charles knows instantly not only what Anna is, but who she is...his mate. Or rather, the mate of the wolf who is his other half. He is enraged at the treatment she has received, the abuses she suffered, and is determined to make things right. But taking Anna away is only going to be half the battle...tempering his own needs is harder than he ever imagined.

This is a great set up for the series...there is no way you can not leave this one and not want more. I definitely recommend reading this one before jumping into the first full novel, since the first days of their relationship resonate throughout the whole series. There are a few really good supporting characters, too, that caught my interest. If this little story is any indication, Patricia Briggs will be landing on my keeper shelf asap.
