Brown's memoir documenting his experiences hiring prostitutes is simultaneously thoughtful, emotionally distant and political. His arguments about the nature of romantic love and his cynicism about it can be hard to read; this can be exacerbated by his calculating, pragmatic approach toward prostitution. The book seems to only scratch the surface of many facets of sex work, but is worth reading for its thought-provoking examination of some aspects of the subject.
